HeaderRewriter for Microsoft Exchange 2013/2016/2019

As you know, each e-mail sent by Exchange server outside contains internal host names and IP addresses in some SMTP headers. Some people believe that it makes the organization vulnerable and want to hide or rewrite such "dangerous" information. HeaderRewriter software application is developed to help on this matter.

HeaderRewriter allows an Exchange administrator to substitute any substring in the following SMTP headers of outgoing messages:

• In-Reply-To
  
• Message-ID
  
• Received
  
• References

Installation

On your Exchange 2013/2016/2019 Mailbox Server computer do the following:

1. Select (or create) a user account that is a member of the local Administrators, Domain Admins and Domain Users security groups.
2. Log on locally as that user.
3. Create C:\Program Files\HeaderRewriter\ directory.
4. Download HeaderRewriter-Demo.zip archive file to C:\Program Files\HeaderRewriter\ directory
5. Right-click HeaderRewriter-Demo.zip and hit "Unblock" button.

   

6. Extract all files from HeaderRewriter-Demo.zip.
7. Run HeaderRewriterSetup.exe. Click Install button. Make sure that HeaderRewriter is appeared in the list of transport agents. Click Enable button.
8. Click Add button in "Rewriting Rules" frame and create a rule. Make sure the rule you have just created is appeared in the list of rewriting rules.

   

9. Click Exit button to close the program.

Testing

1. Let's assume your internal domain is domain.com and you have set the following rule:
   "Message-ID" "domain.com" "NNN.MMM"
2. Open Outlook and create a new mail message. Send the message to any address you can operate
3. Receive a message you have just sent and make sure the Message-ID header contains "NNN.MMM" instead of "domain.com"

Uninstallation

1. Run HeaderRewriterSetup.exe. Click Uninstall button. Make sure that HeaderRewriter is not in the list of Transport agents.
2. Click Exit button to close the program.

About this demo version.

HeaderRewriter demo version allows you to replace any substring only with fixed value “HeaderRewriter by IvaSoft (DEMO)”. The full version allows you to set any string value as a replacement.
