Purpose

The FilterExternalEmail flow separates external emails from internal emails in the user's inbox. The flow is compatible with any Office 365 user's personal mailbox.

Installation

  1. In Outlook, create the top-level email folder "Inbox - External".
  2. 
  3. The flow uses the "Office 365 Outlook" connection. When importing the flow, use your existing connection or create a new one.

  4. Download the "FilterExternalEmail1.zip" file.
  5. Open Power Automate and import the "FilterExternalEmail1.zip" as a new flow, following the Power Automate documentation.

  6. Select the folder "Inbox" in the trigger "When a new email arrives (V3)".

  7. Configure the "When a new email arrives (V3)" trigger.

  8. Select the folder "Inbox - External" in the "Move email (V2) - select the target folder here!" action.

  9. Turn on the flow.

Testing

  1. Send an email from any external mailbox and make sure it is moved to the "Inbox - External" folder.

  2. Send an email from any internal mailbox and verify it remains in the Inbox.
